Our Community

Corvallis Montessori School is a thriving community of children, teachers and parents. Our Community Gatherings bring children, teachers and parents together at the start of school each Friday for student performances and school announcements. A variety of parent involvement and networking opportunities enhance the CMS experience.  Examples of activities which help build and enhance the CMS community include the following, with further details provided throughout the website:

  • Implementation in 2011-12 of software which allows parents to log on to a secure website to see the specific activities their child has been working on, and as another means to communicate with their child's teacher
  • Newsletters and other regular communications
  • Fundraising and volunteer projects
  • Outreach to the surrounding community
  • Breakfast events with the head of school and a wide variety of other school events
  • Mentor program where parents introduce the school to new families
  • Parent education nights on Montessori education and coordinating school and home environments
  • Parent Association
  • CMS Board of Trustees and its associated committees open to community members
  • Designated room parents who facilitate relationships among families and support classroom guides
  • Professional development opportunities for staff
  • Keeping focus on the school's mission and goals to make education a joyful lifelong process for children
  • Maintaining diverse classrooms with environments that guide children toward the development of practical, intellectual, physical, and social skills. This in turn fosters self-confidence, independence, self-discipline, respect, and personal and social responsibility - helping children to reach their full potential.
