Be a Mentor
Welcoming new families is one of our goals. Joining a new school can sometimes be overwhelming, especially to children. To help ease the transition and make the experience easier, the School has created a mentor program.
Mentoring new families is a wonderful way to make new families feel welcome in our community at the Corvallis Montessori School. Having a “buddy” is a comfortable way for both children and parents to join our school and feel part of the community.
As this program is new to CMS we look forward to hearing any ideas you may have, which would improve this program. We will notify you when a new student enrolls at the school. Within two weeks of notifying you we would like you to:
- Phone the family and let them know that you are going to help them become acquainted with the community at CMS and the community at large if they are new to the area.
- Within a month or so you could invite them to do something together as a family, or whatever combination is appropriate for you. Most new families join just before or during the summer, which is an enjoyable time of the year to have a picnic, go for a hike, etc.
- During the first six months of school you would be expected to continue to help the new family feel comfortable.
- You would be asked to introduce the new family to other families at school events.
With the help of Parent Mentors, new families will quickly feel a part of the Corvallis Montessori School's family. If you're interested in being a mentor, please let us know.
