We are delighted to have Carol Alver. CMS for the next couple of days. Tomorrow evening Carol will be giving a talk for parents from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Carol will be speaking on “Implementing the Montessori Philosophy at Home”.

Please let us know if you would like child care by signing up on the sheet on the notice board.

Auction Update

The auction committee continues to do amazing work in preparation for the auction, which is just over four weeks away.

Child Care will be available at the school on the evening of March 2nd. Children must be potty-trained in order to be left with staff. Please let us know if you would like to use child-care that evening.

Parents leaving their children in child-care during the auction evening are asked to bring some food to share amongst the children. Selection of foods should include: pizza, cheese and crackers, fruit, and vegetables.

As part of the auction evening there will be a “Dessert Dash” after dinner. During the dessert dash the various tables bid on their favorite dessert, the highest bidding table will choose their favorite dessert. This will continue until all of the desserts are gone.

There are about twenty desserts to chose from, each one more delicious from the last.

If you would like to contribute a dessert to this event please sign up on the notice board and describe the dessert you plan on bringing. Many thanks for your contributions.

Julia Kay Jamieson will be providing music for the evening before dinner.

Julia is an award-winning harpist. She recently moved to Corvallis, OR from Champaign, IL. She is the principal harpist of the Cleveland Chamber Symphony. As a professional harpist, she won First Prize in the 2002 American String Teachers Association. Illinois. We are delighted to have this amazing musician play before dinner.

February 20th – Presidents’ Day – No School

February 21st – Elementary Class go to a Play

The elementary class will be going to see a play at the Linn-Benton Community College on Tuesday, Feb. 21st with Adele and another adult. “Wiley and the Hairy Man” is an American Southern folktale that originated as an oral tradition amongst African slaves.

We shall be taking a bus at 9:45 a.m. to LBCC’s theater. The show starts at 10:00 a.m. after which the children will have a guided tour of back stage by one of our parents who runs the theater. We’ll eat lunch there and return to school for music and P.E. in the afternoon. As the students have no school on Monday, due to it being Presidents’ Day, they will have music and PE on Tuesday afternoon instead.

We are arranging this day so that Venus and Thomson have a day to work on their classroom before the accreditation consultant arrives that Friday.

Elementary music and PE

Our PE teacher, Alyssa, is out sick today so we shall have music and PE on Thursday afternoon this week.

Message from the auction chair, Lisa Langliers

Hello CMS families!

The auction committee is well under way with the planning of the 5th annual auction. We are in the home stretch, only 4 more weeks until the Gala.

Mark your calendars, invite your friends and family, the auction is Friday March 2 at CH2Mhill…it is the event of the year!

We would love for as many CMS families to attend and participate in making the auction a huge success. Working on the auction is a great way to enrich the CMS community.

A portion of the proceeds from the auction event go towards CMS’s financial aid/scholarship program to create a brighter future for all of us.

The auction is about enriching the future of our community – the children of our neighbors and the children of our friends – and providing an opportunity for future generations to experience an extraordinary education at Corvallis Montessori School.

We invite you to help the 2012 auction committee create the best event yet.

· There are opportunities to contribute your unique talents to auction off the night of the Gala dinner.

· The unique skills/talents of the CMS community truly make the auction special. Our children have created projects in support of enriching our future and we would love for you to contribute your unique talent to help support CMS as well.

· We are still accepting donation forms through February 24th

· As a way to show the guides how much we appreciate all they do for our children we are asking families to donate $4 so that we may buy tickets to the auction Gala for the CMS staff members. The guides love attending the auction and it is a great way to show our appreciation.

There are volunteer opportunities the day and night of the auction. Anyone that volunteers the night of the Gala will get in free, receive a boxed dinner and be able to bid on items.

The volunteer sheet will be posted on the bulletin board between the Maple and Bamboo rooms.

Please contact Lisa Langeliers for more information.

Thank you for all your support and generosity,

Lisa Langeliers
