Monday, December 5 – Teacher In-Service Day
There will be no school this coming Monday as the teachers will be having an in-service day. An in-service day is one during which the teachers write reports and make materials. The assistants will be having a workshop on “The Responsibilities of an Assistant” in the morning and we shall all attend a workshop in the afternoon presented by Cathryn Kasper (AMI consultant) on “Incorporating Art and Culture into the Classroom”. Cathryn has lots of wonderful ideas on how to help the teachers expand their ideas on integrating art into a variety of cultural areas such as geography, botany, and zoology.
Tuesday, December 6 – Book Fair in the foyer
There will be a book fair in the foyer on Tuesday for those who would like to browse and see if there are any books, which you would like to have in your home. Some of the teachers have made requests for certain books, which they would like for the classroom and the list will be posted in the foyer.
Monique Schaefers will be organizing the book fair. She will offer an eFair online concurrently for friends and family who cannot come in to look at the books. Over 80% of the titles are non-fiction. After $500 in sales the school is eligible for 50% back in free books.
December 5 to 16 - Annual Campaign
Over the next two weeks we shall be appealing to your generosity to help us with our ongoing mission to create a safe, comfortable, and aesthetic environment for the children. Over the winter break Eldon will be working in the Cedar Room and the toddler house.
The Cedar Room is in need of new windows, to conserve energy and make it easier to keep the room warm. The toddler house is going to be fitted with a lavatory and sink suitable for toddlers
An over-sized pink tower will be placed in the foyer over the two week capital campaign indicating how much money has been donated each day. Despite the diminishing proportion of each pink cube, each cube will represent a percentage of funds raised. As there are ten cubes each cube will represent 10% of our total goal. Hopefully, we shall have reached our goal of 100% by the last day of this semester when we have our “Peace Gathering” on Friday morning, Dec. 16th and one of the older children in the school will place the last cube on the tower.
We appreciate your understanding of the importance attached to making these improvements for the children and thank you for your generosity over the next two weeks. All donations are tax deductible.
December 15th – Reports Sent Out
The School will give out children’s reports on Thursday, Dec. 15th. If you are unable to pick up your reports that day we shall mail them out to you on Friday, December 16th.
December 16th, 11:00 –11:30 – Peace Gathering in The Commons
There will be a peace gathering on the last day of school, Dec. 16th, at 11:00 a.m. in The Commons. All classes, including the toddler group, will assemble to sing songs together and enjoy a few solo performances. All parents, other family members, and friends are invited to come along. After our gathering in The Commons you are all invited to go into your child’s classroom for some Holiday refreshments from 11:30 a.m.– 12:00 p.m. Look for a sign up sheet outside your child's classroom to bring a refreshment.
Those of you who have more than one child at school will need to plan on visiting all rooms and eating a lot!
The toddler house will not meet back in their room for refreshments.
Parents are invited to contribute to the “smorgasbord” of Holiday finger food for your classroom.
School will officially end for the two-week winter break at 12:00 noon on Friday, December 16th and classes will resume on Tuesday, January 3, 2012
